Anyone been to a comp this year where the Petzl Sequoia, Treemotion, Treeflex were allowed? Seems the head judge for the NETCC is not allowing anything not stamped 22.wgaf. :X

TMs were allowed here in MN. Can't say regarding the others.

all of the above in Charlotte.......ansi BS stopping them? It's a rec climbing event. We had kiwis who kicked ass, most of thier shit would have been dq'd other places. Folks need to recognoze the wealth of gear outside the ansi 5k rule...............

TMs at the Southern Chapter TCC, not sure about the others. That dogmatic shit has GOT to go.

I know we're all on the same page with this one, I'm just looking for evidence to bolster my arguement. Head judge told me on the phone that he didn't have a problem with the gear as long as its in good shape and no modifications, now his tune has changed:/:

tell him he's a whimp....
check this out...one of those whimpy rockclimbing harnesses can take some big whips.....granted Dan died from a slight miscalculation, but ansi rules for gear are a bit overkill................

Getting ansi to change its rules would be akin to pissin in the ocean to increase the salt content.

Gerry's right... but TCCs don't have to hold to strict ANSI rules. It's a competitive event... stock cars aren't street legal; most timbersport wouldn't comply with ANSI.

Maybe we should change ANSI. If they heard the message from all over the place, they'd HAVE to respond.

Blinky's right. It's a competitive event and the broad rules governing out industry shouldn't apply to qualified competitors and these events. It's a whole different realm. Waivers, gear inspections and approval of the judges should be all that's needed.
Let the games begin!

Finally home from the comp. The sequoia and the treemotion and treeflex were all allowed and all used (only one treeflex, TONS of treemotions and at least 5 sequoias) Two petzl saddles and a motion in the masters challenge.
Oh and it didn't matter for me cuz I got stuck judging the work climb:( too many techs.......
Anyways, 5 discretionary judge points for inztrees;)

Last years mens champ, Justin Donahue, won again and Marcy Gladdys took the womens. Great masters climbs by Jon Royce, Moris Duarte, and Melissa LeVangie as well.

I think he's talking about things like car keys, change or your wallet. When I started climbing, nobody ever told me to leave that stuff in the truck. But after a couple years I found it uncomfortable, and never once did I ever need car keys or my wallet while in a tree. These days about half the climbers I see carry that stuff around in the tree with them.
ive seen some crews where i wouldnt leave my wallet unguarded. my saddle will shove my wallet out toot sweet so it always gets stowed before i climb

I was referring to an incident where a friend of mine forgot to take the rule book out of his back pocket before the Masters climb... his first actually. The book fell out of his pocket during the climb and he was DQ'd.
He was DQ'd because of the rule book... literally. :what:
When I climb I carry a phone and a locking folder in my pockets, nothing else.
