better not trust that if your life or serious injury depends on it. Why not wrap rope around for a cpomplete second tie in? safer:D

It's not a lifeline, John - it's backed up by the climbing rope.
Cool trick Nick, but when I do it I do as John suggested. I don't wanna pucker up if my slippery hitch came loose. :\:
But a cool trick nonetheless! I'll give it a shot sometime.

If you are sideways from your tie in and take the "whip" a severe injury could result. If the "whip" would result in not hitting anything I would do it.
I think it's bad practice...heck I'd rather hold on to the tail, blow off the munter hitch then worry about the second tie in coming loose.........but then again I'm a whimp. 20 years on a rope tells me not to do that shat.

I think you are really Zorro....cool trick, Nick. I liked the way it released.
I often use my long lanyard to "return to zero" but if it's not long enough your trick will work great...plus, I have had the snap of my lanyard get hung in a crotch when retrieving it and had to hand over hand back to it to release it - not often but once is too often. No way the unknotted tail of you rope would get hung.
I learned rappelling on a biner with a friction wrap; I suppose that would work as well as a Muenter.
Thanks for taking the time to show.

I do that alot when I am roping down brush and controlling the descent my self.
I call it taking a wrap upstairs

Pretty cool Nick. I go to panic if my rope doesn't untie itself thou:) Seems to work I'll have to try it

No prob guys. We were just messing around yesterday and I thought we'd make a silly video out of it.
NoBivy- I think a safer route would be to go once around the limb, then anchor the rope to you, then do the Munter on the other side, then rap down on the DRT setup, then when you get to where you're going just untie it all and pull the tail back...but that's not nearly as fun!
This was a scenario where really to get back I would've really just jumped and swung to the middle.

And there ya go! ;)
that is cool but i usually take a bight from the standing end around the tree, belay my self with the friction of the tree then pull the tail to undo the bight

Nick, beings your in Hollywood why dont you produce a series like AX-MEN on History channel. Most of the video would be off the ground I could volteer my service.
Do you know any script writers that would be approachable with an idea like this, was your clip scripted?

xtreme- the clip was not scripted. I did one take, then me and the producer and film crew (karina) reviewed the film, made suggested changes about lines and shooting angles, then we did one final take.
Next time I bump into a writer I'll ask them about it.
