View Full Version : Stihl MS361 with 25" Rollomatic ES, Muffler Modded

For sale:

Stihl MS361 with a 25" Stihl Rollomatic .050, 3/8" bar. Saw is 2 years old, and has been well taken care of. It has been muffler modded by my saw tuner buddy down in Woodinville, WA. The muffler mod has a spark screen in it, so it is still legal on FS land. Carb has been adjusted accordingly due to the muffler mod. It has the dual dog kit on it with the ceramic roller. It is the smaller dog kit... not the big ol' PNW fallin' dogs. Stihl part number for the dogs is 1135-650-7750, just for reference.

Comes with a full skip 33RSF chain too... Chain has about 2/3rds life left in it.

$500 bucks plus shipping... which will prolly be $35 dollars or so.

I can accept Paypal... or we can work out whatever kind of payment...

Thanks,

Gary

I hear ya Gary. That's how I sold my 460. I looked at it one day and it had dust on it, and I couldn't remember when I last used it. Haven't missed it since.

I've got the 660 and 440, so it was kindof a bastard child.

Well hey y'all, this is quite the saw, and the muffler mod is top notch on this saw!

:)

I got the 2 bars already packed up. They will be sent seperatly from the powerhead. I will toss the chains, and the owners manual in the box with the powerhead too.

Oh yeah. I have one chain that i hit a nail with in a Doug Fir... It has a few messed up cutters, but is dang near new. It will make a good "dirty wood" chain. Or you can gring the cutters all the same size to make it work... anyways, you can have it if you want it... I have no other 25" bars that it will fit. :)

You'll be plenty happy Justin. It's an awesome saw. Here in our part of the world, it even does well as a light timber saw. It'll pull that 25" in our trees with ease.

(That stump cut is level...the camerman aligned with the tree, not the ground....honest! That's the stump from the tree in the first pic.)

welcome bowtie, tell us more:)

I bought that 361 stock, used. I saw how this guy from Washington modded his, just like Gasoline71's saw. So I did mine the same way with bolt spacer pipe that I drilled thinner (5/8) and the screen from a TS Stihl cutoff saw. Then I cleaned and painted the muffler with Dupli-color high temp with ceramic paint and baked it in the oven for 3 hours at 400 degrees. This isnt my idea, this was suplied by a well-known guy up in Washington...;)

Lol used and abused. I should get a pic of the chain that's on it right now, it's only missing a few teeth so far. Filed right back so the teeth are no longer full width. I'm a cheapskate when it comes to chains.

I hear ya I was just chuckling cause the chain that's on it is basically done but I keep going 'just one or two more file strokes will keep it going'. Generally when teeth are breaking off I throw them out.

sotc
11-06-2008, 10:38 AM
cmon now squishy, the teeth get smaller as you go and then you lose a few? cant cut as well as a full chain;)

Yeah, Squish...cut as well as a new chain, my behind!

squisher
11-06-2008, 04:57 PM
No problemo. Until you start losing cutter width why shouldn't it cut as well as new? If it's sharpened properly and your rakers are the correct height why would you think it's not going to cut as well?

Now once you're down so far that the teeth are breaking off of course you're gonna lose some performance but by that time you're probably starting to lose some cutter width too.

Lol, maybe I'll take your chains if you ship 'em for free.:D

Ok the chain that's losing cutting edge would not be as fast, but they're not run like that for long because I find teeth start breaking off.

BUT!!!

Right down to just before that point I have no problem keeping a chain sharp like a razor. Atleast as good as new, better if it's not Stihl chain.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.:P

You all could refer to me as 'hand filer extraordinaire' from now on if you like. Instead of 'the calm one'.Lmao!

Why does the Stihl chain not perform as well as others at the very end?

squisher
11-06-2008, 08:05 PM
Not what I meant. Stihl imo is alot sharper from the factory then Oregon. Those are the only two brands of chain I run.

I dont even buy Oregon chain anymore unless I have no choice at the time... But I usually have bought a years worth of chain by feb or march. So I rarely put myself in a no choice scenario.

woodworkingboy

I got a sh@tload of good chain recently for free, from the tool rental place in town. They replace the chain every time their saws get loaned out. Hard to believe I thought.... The good thing is that it's all 3/8" not safety chain, the bad thing is that most of it is .058" or .063" gauge.
